Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Drumming Workshop
September 13, 2012
Event Navigation
This workshop will focus on traditional Belly Dance grooves and rhythms from North African, Persian, Arabian, Balkan, and Turkish orgins. We will also look at modern applications and musical sensibilities from these regions as well as the union of movement and sound and different roles for accompanying dancers. Traditionally these rhythms are played on frame drums (including the tar, the riqq, and the daf) and goblet drums (including the dumbek, darbuka, and zarb), but can be adapted to all hand drums. Bring your drum or use one of ours. This workshop is open to beginners and is great for drummers, musicians, dancers, composers, and all humans. This workshop will broaden our musical awareness and rhythmic understanding while making these ethnic rhythms fun and accessible.
